Cookie Policy

Last updated: 1 July 2026

What are cookies?

Cookies are small text files placed on your device by websites you visit. They are widely used to make websites work, to remember your preferences, and to collect information about how pages are used.

This policy covers cookies and similar technologies — including browser local storage, which works like a cookie but is stored differently. Under UK PECR (Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations), both require your prior informed consent where they are not strictly necessary.

Cookies and storage we use directly

The table below lists every cookie and storage item set directly by this site.

NameCategoryExpiryPurpose
cainan_cookie_consentFunctional (local storage)Until clearedSaves your cookie preference so the consent banner does not reappear. Not transmitted to any third party.

Third-party cookies (consent required)

The following cookies and requests are made by third-party services we use. The analytics cookies are only set if you click Accept all on the consent banner — they are not present if you choose "Essential only".

Analytics cookies — Google Analytics 4

We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how visitors use this site — which pages are most visited, how long people spend, what devices they use, and broadly where they are in the world. This helps us improve the site over time. No advertising profile is built and the data is not shared with other Google products.

These cookies are only loaded with your prior consent. IP addresses are anonymised before being sent to Google.

NameProviderExpiryPurpose
_gaGoogle LLC2 yearsDistinguishes unique users. Contains a randomly generated ID — no personally identifiable information.
_ga_G-XXXXXXXXGoogle LLC2 yearsPersists session state for this specific GA4 property. The suffix matches your Measurement ID.

Google Analytics data is retained for 14 months by default (the minimum GA4 allows). You can view Google's privacy policy at policies.google.com/privacy.

Google Fonts

Our typefaces (Inter and Barlow Condensed) are loaded from Google's font CDN. Your browser requests these files from Google's servers regardless of your cookie choice — this is required for the site to display correctly. Google states that no cookies are set through this service and no data is used for advertising. Your IP address is transmitted to Google as part of the font request.

Your choices and how to manage cookies

You have several options to control cookies and similar technologies:

  • Our consent banner: When you first visit the site, a banner asks for your preference. "Accept all" loads Google Analytics. "Essential only" does not — analytics cookies are never set. You can change this preference at any time below.
  • Opt out of Google Analytics: You can prevent GA from collecting your data by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on (tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout), choosing "Essential only" in our banner, or using a browser extension such as uBlock Origin.
  • Browser settings: All modern browsers allow you to block or delete cookies. Consult your browser's help documentation: Chrome (support.google.com/chrome), Firefox (support.mozilla.org), Safari (support.apple.com), Edge (support.microsoft.com).
  • Local storage: To clear our preference record specifically, use your browser's developer tools (Application → Local Storage → this site) and delete the key "cainan_cookie_consent". Or use the button below.
